Jennifer Jones who is representing Manitoba at the Scotties sat at our table after the Page 1 and Page 2 games. She is looking up the latest scores in other men's provincial tournaments. Sitting at the table were Craig Savill and Brent Laing's parents as well as Janet Ellis. Earlier in the day we met Goldine's Erin Flowers at Zellers. She was buying long underwear for Mike Harris who was freezing on the ice surface as he did the Rogers' play by play analysis of the games. We were at Zellers to purchase a thong for Finlay, one of the ice crew volunteers. Finlay is from Cochrane, Ontario and travels the farthest of any volunteers. The head ice tech asked us to pick up the thong as a joke that related to something earlier in the week that happened to the ice crew at the "ballet". When Finlay held them up I remarked that by wearing them Finlay would put the Coch in Cochrane.
Above is the array of computers. guages, monitors and sensors Darrin Sinclair and the ice crew use at the event. Ontario is very lucky to have a group of skilled people to make the Tankard ice one of the best playing surfaces in the country. They are in the same area as Rogers who really believe in cable. See below.
The near Howard loss in the Page 1 game would have been a surprise. Post game Howard team players said they played aweful, were not sharp, Laing had a couple of rocks that were weird and generally they were not on their game.
When skip Mike Anderson who will battle Peter Corner in Sunday's semi-final was asked by me who he wanted to play Sunday he answered "Hopefully both of them (Corner and Howard). GREAT ANSWER.
